What can you tell us about the wedding?
“I had been a widow for 17 years before I was blessed with my prince charming who had also lost his wife. We know our angels in heaven were cheering us on. It was only fitting that we were married at the Thornwood Castle in Lakewood, WA – the perfect setting for our magical union. Even the sun shone brightly with 70 degree temperatures which is quite unusual in the Pacific Northwest in the month of October. We know that God was with us and our family and friends were overjoyed. We continue to count our blessings each and every day.”
How did you meet? What was your first date like?
“I had signed up for Christian Mingle in January of 2013. My daughter and brother had encouraged me to give it a try. Little did I know that 2 days after signing up, I would spot the photo of Max as I was scanning through all the potential matches with my daughter. I commented at the time that Max “had a kind face.” Max had also signed up a few weeks earlier and spotted my photo and contacted me by email. He hadn’t contacted anyone else. We exchanged a few emails and soon decided to speak on the phone. That first phone conversation lasted 2 hours! We decided to meet for lunch at a nearby restaurant. I selected one that was also adjacent to the very large parking lot of a large grocery store. Wanting to be careful I parked far away from the restaurant just in case I needed to make a safe exit. Max parked directly in front of the restaurant. I was directed to call my daughter and brother after that first date to let them know I was OK. God’s plans are always perfect and so was our first date. We talked and laughed and shared our hearts. Two hours flew by so very quickly. I knew that something very special was happening. The date was January 22, 2013. Our waiter’s name was Nelson. Every year since then we have had lunch at that restaurant and sat at “our table” on January 22nd. Nelson remembers us and treats us to a special shared dessert. The magic is always amazing! God is good and we are so very blessed.”
Describe the moment you knew it was true love!
“Having been a widow for so very long, I kept pinching myself because I had not felt this way for a long time. Both Max and I had been blessed with wonderful marriages before we lost our spouses. We knew what love felt like. We knew what being cherished was like. Many never experience that! We have been doubly blessed. Max was driving in his car when an old song by Perry Como came on the radio – “And I Love You So.” He recalls that he almost drove off the road while listening to the lyrics. When he got home he sent me a link to the song. It made me cry. “I guess they understand how lonely life has been – but life began again the day you took my hand.” We both knew then with all our heart and soul that we would be together. We met in January, got engaged in May, and married in a castle in October. God’s perfect plan is amazing! We count our blessings each and every day. Thank you for helping us find each other. “Never give up. Trust in the Lord. Keep an open heart and an open mind. Be yourself. Be honest. Be kind.”
