How did you meet? What was your first date like? Give us all the details!
I had been on the site for about 6 months when I met Charlie. I had a good friend from high school who met her spouse through Christian Mingle and she highly encouraged me to give it a try. I was very hesitant but figured what do I have to lose? I went on a few dates but didn’t really click with anyone. Less than a week before my subscription was ending I got a message from Charlie. I had already decided that I wasn’t going to renew my subscription.
Charlie said he liked that I had taken the time to write a thought-out profile. It definitely peaked his interest so he messaged me. Charlie had only been on for less than a month! It didn’t take very long for us to meet.
We maybe messaged one or two times before he asked to meet in person. Actually, he found me on Facebook and sent me a friend request and messaged me there too (I guess I wasn’t responding fast enough for him). It was kind of stalkerish, haha but I was flattered.
He was in the process of moving to North Carolina (where I was living) and was still traveling back and forth for work, from Virginia. He suggested that we meet up at a coffee shop to get to know each other. I honestly wasn’t looking forward to meeting him because at that point I felt pretty discouraged by many potential relationships falling through and not working out. I went into that first date with a wall up and an “I don’t care” attitude.
Well, that first meeting was about 3 hours long but the time went fast because we were really enjoying each other’s company! I remember how impressed I was with him because he asked me a lot of questions about myself. I felt like he was genuinely interested in getting to know me. We are both musicians so he asked me to play him a song on his guitar.
So there we were, sitting outside of a coffee shop, having known each other for a couple of hours and we’re playing music together. Before we departed, he asked to take me to dinner the following weekend. I had a church retreat I was going on so I told him it would have to be the weekend after that. Charlie didn’t want to wait that long to see me so he suggested later that week that we meet up for coffee before I left town that weekend.
Describe the moment you knew it was true love!
I had a pretty strong feeling that Charlie was the one I was going to spend the rest of my life with fairly early on. It was probably after a month or two of dating that I had that realization. It wasn’t like a flash of lightening moment but I just could see myself with him and eventually he became my best friend.
I remember people would always tell me “you’ll just know” when you meet the man you’re supposed to marry. I was always like, how? And then after being with Charlie for a few months I just knew. It’s like a peaceful, I’m not afraid of committing to him for life, kind of feeling.
What advice would you give other Christian Mingle members?
We’ve been together now for 4 1/2 years, 3 of those years we’ve been married, and now we have our first child on the way. It has been a blast and I could not imagine being with anyone else! I’m thankful that Christian Mingle gave us the opportunity to meet. I would say to anyone who is looking into online dating that God still has to work through it. You could meet someone here and you could not. It’s just a means to an end.
