A 12-hour drive and a run-in with a coyote were no barriers to the love that bloomed between Christian Mingle couple Amber and Darin. Despite the distance between them, Darin knew it was true love on their very first weekend together! They were married on June 29, 2019. How did you meet? What was your first date like? Tell us all the details!
We met downtown Aiken, SC in late July, 2017. We met in an alley. LITERALLY. There is a really cool hot spot downtown Aiken called The Alley. It has restaurants, breweries, etc. we got a meal at the brewery, talked a lot, walked around downtown quite a bit.
Then we progressed to a really cool park called Hopelands Gardens and walked some more. We like to walk. We are in excellent shape. Also I should mention, I drove 12 hours to meet her. YEP. I’m from central Illinois. So, we spent the weekend together. And then Sunday came and I had to drive 12 hours back home. SO WORTH IT!
Also, I did this drive roughly every month for a whole year. I think I put an extra 25k miles on my car, cracked a windshield, and smashed my bumper and radiator via a coyote on the interstate in Tennessee. Super fun times!!
Describe the moment you knew it was true love!
For me it had to be the first weekend. I know it’s crazy. But I had dated a lot prior to Amber and I knew who I was looking for.
What advice would you give other Christian Mingle members?
Make sure to find the right kind of person for you. I don’t believe in one soulmate, but I don’t believe in marrying just anyone. We aren’t all comparable. Patience!
Find someone who is kind, respectful, and wants to do things for you. Also someone who you can be yourself with is huge. Don’t change. Especially at first. They need to know who you really are.
